TLC News2010 Outstanding Tutor AwardCongratulations to Laurie Anson, the 2010 Outstanding Tutor Award Winner. Laurie received her award at the PAACE Conference on June 1, 2010 during the opening luncheon. Laurie, of Noxen, PA, tutors for Bradford-Wyoming Literacy Program which is headquartered at the Bradford County Library.
When observed, Laurie and her learner, D, worked in a room with walls peppered with materials relevant to their studies. The learner practically burst into the room in her excitement to get started. She quickly pointed to some pictures on the wall and worked to remember the names of the individuals pictured. 'D' was well aware of what was expected of her throughout the lesson and she was always ready to move on to the next step. Laurie and D obviously have a well developed rapport which helps D refocus when she gets frustrated - she was able to laugh at herself when Laurie touched her shoulder and said "I sense a bit of frustration here...".
